We had an amazing weekend with Shelby and Chris at Devil’s Thumb Ranch in Winter Park, Colorado! Being a wedding photographer allows us to spend time with people on one of the most important and emotional days of our lives. I’d imagine being an OBGYN is similar, if not a little messier! It was wonderful to get to be a part of Chris and Shelby’s wedding celebration, especially since Shelby was the doctor for both of our boys’ deliveries. The tables turned and we got to witness and document one of their most important days as well.
We’ve probably had more “meetings” with Shelby than any other bride we’ve ever photographed, especially since our second son was born just two weeks before her wedding! The irony is Shelby is definitely not a planner by nature (how could you be when people are constantly calling in the middle of the night to have you race to the hospital!). She fully admitted Chris did most of the planning work for the wedding, and he did an amazing job!
Chris and Shelby lucked out with possibly the only sunny Saturday in February. Their wedding happened right between two major snowstorms that delayed all kinds of travel and dropped 40 inches of snow in the mountains! Luckily their friends and family, who travelled in from all over the country, made it safely to Devil’s Thumb Ranch.
Shelby and Chris shared a first look near the High Lonesome Barn before braving the cross country ski trails (and insane sun) to do portraits in the snow with the mountains of Winter Park, Colorado in the background. We enjoyed the portraits (possibly more than Shelby and Chris because of the snow glare) because we rarely know couples well enough to joke around and give them a hard time, but for these two it was no holds barred!
Chris and Shelby exchanged vows at Our Lady of the Snow in Granby. Deacon Chuck came down from Breckenridge to proceed over the ceremony and shared both entertaining and heartfelt anecdotes about the couple.
Guests headed to the Timber House for cocktail hour where they puzzled over some Chris and Shelby trivia in the hopes of winning some amazing bottles of wine. Shelby’s friend and bridesmaid, Ali, is a wedding planner in Arkansas and she transformed the Broad Axe Barn at Devil’s Thumb into a beautiful reception space. Simple decor and white florals perfectly complimented Shelby and Chris’s classic, timeless style. We had an amazing time with Shelby and Chris’s family and friends and are truly grateful to be able to document their day!
